River Manor is dedicated to making a difference, we are conscious of the difference we can make with small initiatives. We have a number of operational strategies aimed at reducing the demand for resources that our business makes.
Additionally we have a strong commitment to assisting the local communities improve their quality of life. Trees planted on behalf of guests would be done so in areas where there are little or no such features. The aim would be to reduce the carbon footprint of your holiday and at the same time green communities where funding for such initiatives is limited.
Community Responsibility
River Manor has been involved in several community projects since we opened our doors for business 11 years ago. Our belief has always been that we would like to put back into the community a little of what we have been blessed with and so lucky to have achieved.
We would like to share our involvement in these community projects with our guests, for them to gain a fuller appreciation of the wider implications and significance of staying with us. Over and above providing full time employment for over 12 people, guests who stay at River Manor make it possible for us to continue our commitment to our local communities.
Many of our staff are involved in aspects of these projects and they form the basis of a lot of the energy and motivation that is part of their daily work schedule. We offer a range of opportunities for guests to discover these projects should they wish to learn more about these or any other community based projects. We appeal to guests to consider visiting our projects to see first hand the amazing work being undertaken as a result of River Manor hosting visitors to South Africa.
Kyamandi Home of Safety
Child abuse and neglect is an ever growing challenge for South Africa, Despite all the hardships of growing up in poor communities children also have deal with neglect and abuse. Established 5 years ago, this home provides shelter, food and a loving home environment for both orphaned and abused children who would otherwise have no place to go to.
Two housemothers care for children under the age of 5, whose parents have been unable to take proper care of them. They are provided with a safe and secure home where they can experience the joys of being a child. We hope to expand this program in future to include the opportunity for these children to attend school and so reach their full potential in life.
Vlottenberg Community Project
Marginalised communities are an ever-present challenge in South Africa. Without a firm base from which to grow their community structure, family life becomes greatly disadvantaged, high unemployment rate a reality with few opportunities for these communities to fulfill their true potential. River Manor provides this community with essential nourishment through food packs, to ensure that children do not go hungry and that one of the essential building blocks of a stable and happy family, food, is provided for in a small way.
Guest Involvement
Many of our guests share our passion and become involved in our projects by either a general donation to our trust that is used at the discretion of the trustees for the ongoing running of these projects. Funds donated in this form go straight to the actual projects. Secondly they make donations to specific individuals, children caught in the viscous cycle of poverty who have all the potential to succeed but whose circumstances will never allow them to fulfill their god given potential. These donations are managed by the trustees for the individuals to ensure opportunities that may otherwise slip by are seized upon.
We communicate with donors via e mail and quarterly newsletters updating them on what has been achieved. Donors and guests are also welcome to communicate with beneficiaries directly at anytime.
