MAGALHÃES MUSICAL MOMENTS

Following a number of highly acclaimed appearances at the recent Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, Portuguese pianist, Luis Magalhães, presents Musical Moments; a collection of gems for solo piano. The concert forms part of the prestigious Endler Concert Series and takes place in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch University on 31 July at 20:00.

Magalhães is not only well known as a soloist and lecturer at Stellenbosch University, but also as a partner in TwoPianists, the internationally acclaimed piano duo with his wife Nina Schumann. Apart from their concerts, TwoPianists Records has also won world wide recognition for a number of CDs including swooping up the only classical music SAMA award in 2010. Two Pianists Records now enjoys global distribution through NAXOS.

The first part of the concert will be an all Schubert affair featuring the Allegretto in c, D 915 and the well known Moments Musicaux, D 780. This collection of six movements is, along with his impromptus, arguably his most frequently played solo piano music and combines a wide variety of tempi and colours to form a well balanced and most beautiful collection. In the second half of the concert Magalhães will enchant with the sounds and textures of French impressionism, performing works by Ravel and Debussy. The preludes of Debussy, a number of which will be played here, conjure up imaginative and colorful scenes from the beautiful streets of Paris to surreal and hazy scenes of nature.

Tickets are available at Computicket outlets countrywide or on 083 915 8000. Prices at R85 and student/pensioner tickets R65, exclude a Computicket service charge. Box office at the Endler Hall will open at 19:00 on the night. For further enquiries, please call the Endler Hall Concert Series on 021 808 2343 during office hours.

Stellenbosch Wine Routing

We gladly share the following guidelines and tips with you to ensure that your visit will be enjoyable and memorable. These guidelines are intended for visitors and are not rigidly set in stone. Each cellar may operate on a different system.

Where do I start?
1. Decide which cellar you wish to visit.
2. You will need at least one hour for each wine farm you visit.
3. Try to join at least one cellar tour, as you will find it most informative.
4. Consult the provided MAPS.
5. Decide where you want to enjoy lunch. We suggest you arrive between 12h30 and 13h30 as most restaurants do not serve lunch after 15h00.
6. Arrive at your last cellar at least and hour before closing time to ensure that you can still taste their wines.
7. Appoint a designated driver and drive safely.

I'm here, what now?

1. Most cellars request that you buy a glass to taste their wines. They usually do not allow tasting out of any other glass other than those sold by them. You can collect glasses as souvenirs.
2. Each cellar has a limit to the amount of wine you may taste. Ask the tasting room assistant.
3. Taste dry white wines first, proceed to red wines and sample sweeter wines last. Sparkling wines can be enjoyed in between to clean your palate. The tasting order will allow your palate to progress naturally.
4. Do not swallow all wines tasted! Spit the wine into the spittoons provided in the tasting room.
5. Smoking is not allowed in tasting rooms.
6. Some cellars will serve you at the table and others may only serve at the tasting counter. Ask your tasting room assistant.

How to purchase wine

1.Most cellars allow you to buy mixed cases of wine.
2.Wine can be delivered to your door on request.
3.Most cellars offer secure packaging for air cargo.
4.Remember that wine is a perfect and unique gift from the region.
