Explore Hostoric Stellenbosch

The best way to discover historic Stellenbosch is on foot. Hiking Trails

Enjoy spectacular sunsets with 360º views of breath-taking scenery on any of the several hiking trails along the mountain slopes next to Coetzenburg stadium. Rent a bike from the Stellenbosch Trail Fund and explore the Eeste River Trail that starts right in front of River Manor’s entrance.

Moederkerk

Admire the Moederkerk’s (Mother Church) Neo-Gothic Tower that was completed in 1863.

Botanical Garden

Meander through the Botanical Garden where exotic foreign plants share the garden with indigenous varieties in a tranquil atmosphere.

Local Crafts

Arts & Craft

Pop in at Dorpstraat Gallery for solo and group exhibitions of South African artists.

Visit Gallery University Stellenbosch – a contemporary exhibition space, managed by the university’s Visual Arts department.

Shop at Oom Samie Se Winkel (Uncle Samie’s Store) – an institution that stocks everything from straw yard brooms to clothing, fruit and veg and arts and crafts.

Retreat to the Rupert Museum for a wonderful collection of over 350 contemporary South African artworks from 1940 to 1970.

Admire Stelenbosch University’s permanent collection of paintings, graphic works and sculptures, as well as an anthropological collection at the Sasol Art Museum.

Expect a meaty treat at The Fat Butcher – a contemporary steakhouse serving a variety of excellent quality meat dishes that are perfectly cooked to your liking (vegetarian options available).
